A blend of 100% cabernet sauvignon with wine made from each cabernet vineyard block on the Cimarossa estate, this wine represents the best that Howell Mountain has to offer. Elevation ranges from 1600-2100 feet; several soil types; sun exposures from the east, west, and north. The wine was aged for 22 months in French Oak barrels, 35% new.
\nVisually, this wine is a brilliant medium-dark ruby.
\nNose – Fragrant caramelized oak, beautifully integrated and complementary to bright, ripe Santa Rosa plum and just-ripe blackberry. No hint of overripeness. Notes of late summer dry grass add a subtle, earthy complexity.
\nPalate – Soft on entry with a gentle attack. Tannins gradually build alongside layers of dark chocolate and dried herbs, set against a slightly dusty backdrop. Very balanced for a Howell Mountain Cab, with a weight that makes it an excellent food wine – both the wine and the meal can shine, elevating each other. This is a synergistic choice for so many of the dishes you prepare.

\nRiva di Levante translates to 'steep bank where the sun rises.' Grapes are sourced from a 3 acre block on the eastern slope, where the elevation peaks at 2100 feet. The soil is a deep red loam and is the source behind the name \"Cimarossa\" (red hilltop).

This is one of our warmest blocks due to the afternoon sun. The clusters are hand-picked and this single vineyard wine is aged for 22 months in French Oak, 50% of which is new.

Vingiancu (pronounced veen-jan-coo) is our tribute to the Mediterranean varietals that thrive in our mountain vineyard.
Malvasia Bianca is one of the most historical grape varieties in the world, with roots that trace back centuries throughout the Mediterranean. Known for its expressive floral character, the grape produces wines that are beautifully lifted and vibrant - showing notes of citrus blossom, stone fruit, and fresh herbs, balanced by bright, natural acidity. At Cimarossa, our mountain-grown Malvasia takes on an added dimension. The elevation and volcanic soils of our estate lend the wine a beautiful, underlying structure that supports its vibrant aromatics.

Riva di Ponente translates to 'steep bank where the sun sets.' Grapes are sourced from a 1.4 acre vineyard block with full western exposure. This is one of our warmest blocks due to the afternoon sun. The clusters are hand-picked and this single vineyard wine is aged for 22 months in French Oak, 50% of which is new.
\nVintage Notes: The beginning of the 2019 growing season was defined by copious rainfall and late soil moisture. The long, warm summer saw very few extreme heat events, with foggy mornings setting the stage for vibrant and expressive wines. The long, relatively mild finish to the season, not without its moments of unpredictability, helped to preserve freshness and finesse in the fruit with abundant hang time teasing out great color, structure and soft tannins. Volume is looking to be about average to a little less than average. All in all, exceptional fruit with bright acidity and ample texture promises an amazing vintage.
\nTasting Notes: Visually Riva di Ponente displays a saturated dark plum color. The nose fills with aromas of vanilla bean, maple syrup, and very dark chocolate along with vine-ripened blackberry and boysenberry. The palate continues with the aforementioned descriptors and builds with layers of ripe plum, hints of graham cracker, and blackberry pie. The impressive concentration and generous, ret rich and silky tannins are well worth the low yield in the vineyard. A warm & lingering finish quintessentially portrays what we have come to expect from the afternoon, sun-kissed blocks that comprise the Ponente label.
