February saw abundant rains, followed by lots of filtered light in spring and early summer. Both bud break and flowering occurred a bit late, but under ideal weather conditions, creating a plentiful and even fruit set. Summer brought generous sun during the day and cooler marine influences at night. The relatively mild summer was virtually uninterrupted by heat spikes and was followed by extended fall sunshine and moderate heat. The growing conditions were ideal and we allowed our fruit to accumulate flavor complexity with gradual increases in sugar levels.

\n2021 Started off with very little rain, leading to drought conditions in Napa Valley. The winter delivered a scant amount of rain in January and February and then almost nothing after that. While this lack of moisture had the effect of limiting the amount of fruit that the vines were ready to produce, the lack of adverse weather also meant that both bud break and flowering proceeded uneventfully. While concerning in the long term, the drought of 2021 resulted in a more natural load on the vines, requiring less pruning and dropping of fruit. The summer was marked by no significant heat events, unlike other recent vintages, allowing for smooth and even ripening.

Growing Season
\nThe 2022 vintage growing season took place during the third drought year in a row for California. The valley saw much needed rain in October and December 2021. January to March was much drier than usual. Overall, it was a relatively dry growing season. Spring was mild and cool with budbreak beginning in early March, and the first signs of veraison appearing in early July.
\nA heat wave with temperatures over 100 degrees began Labor Day weekend and lasted six days; a couple of days saw upwards of 110 to 118 degrees. Those same hot days were met with relatively cool nights dropping into the upper 50s which allowed the vines to recharge. The rise in temperature accelerated grape ripening throughout the valley which resulted in earlier pick dates.

\nLike a slow but sure heartbeat, the 2023 growing season proceeded steadily through the summer and deep into the fall. No heat spikes, no rain, no wildfire. It was one of the longest growing seasons in a decade or more. The sugars progressed evenly and tannins matured gently. Winter and spring rains led to full reservoirs and healthy, saturated soils; ideal conditions as we headed into bud break. Mild, warm summer weather supported healthy canopy growth through bloom and set. Relatively cool weather throughout the gowing season in tandem with an abundance of sunshine allowed grape skins to ripen slowly and develop maximal dark red color components.

\nGrowing Season
\n2021 Started off with very little rain, leading to drought conditions in Napa Valley. The winter delivered a scant amount of rain in January and February and then almost nothing after that. While this lack of moisture had the effect of limiting the amount of fruit that the vines were ready to produce, the lack of adverse weather also meant that both bud break and flowering proceeded uneventfully. While concerning in the long term, the drought of 2021 resulted in a more natural load on the vines, requiring less pruning and dropping of fruit. The summer was marked by no significant heat events, unlike other recent vintages, allowing for smooth and even ripening.

\nGrowing Season
The beginning of the 2019 growing season was defined by copious rainfall and late soil moisture. The long, warm summer saw very few extreme heat events, with foggy mornings setting the stage for vibrant and expressive wines. The long, relatively mild finish to the season allowed us to capture all of the richness, tension and vibrant expression offered in the fruit.

\nGrowing Season
February saw abundant rains, followed by lots of filtered light in spring and early summer. Both bud break and flowering occurred a bit late, but under ideal weather conditions, creating a plentiful and even fruit set. Summer brought generous sun during the day and cooler marine influences at night. The relatively mild summer was virtually uninterrupted by heat spikes and was followed by extended fall sunshine and moderate heat. The growing conditions were ideal and we allowed our fruit to accumulate flavor complexity with gradual increases in sugar levels.

2021 Fe Cabernet Sauvignon
\nGrowing Season
\n2021 started off with very little rain, leading to drought conditions in Napa Valley. The winter delivered a scant amount of rain in January and February and then almost nothing after that. While this lack of moisture had the effect of limiting the amount of fruit that the vines were ready to produce, the lack of adverse weather also meant that both bud break and flowering proceeded uneventfully. While concerning in the long term, the drought of 2021 resuted in more natural load on the vines, requiring less pruning and dropping of fruit. The summer was marked by no significant heat events, unlike other recent vintages allowing for smooth and even ripening.
