Deep purple-black in color, it gives understated scents of plum preserves, dried mulberries and black cherry compote plus underlying hints of wild sage and cloves. Full-bodied, concentrated and giving plenty of juicy black flavors on the palate, it has approachable, rounded tannins and good length.

One of the highlights in this vast range, the Labor of Love is Cabernet Franc-based blend from Martinez, on Pritchard Hill. Powerful and structured in the glass, with terrific aromatic nuance, the 2016 has so much going on. Espresso, menthol, licorice and dark fruit meld together in this potent, deep wine. This is another wine with a real sense of weight and expansiveness.

The palate is medium to full-bodied with plush, rounded tannins, compelling freshness and plenty of expressive, plumy fruit, finishing spicy.

This rich, sumptuous Cabernet is one of the many 2017s here that offer tremendous immediacy. It could use some time to soften, and yet there is good structure underneath. Blood orange, mint, sweet spice and rose petal overtones add dramatic lift on the finish.

The 2018 Bull Block is a bold, dramatic wine. Inky dark fruit, creme de cassis, chocolate, licorice, plum, lavender, cloves and menthol flesh out in this generous, beautifully resonant Cabernet Sauvignon. Plush and opulent, with soft contours, this striking 2018 has so much to give.
The profound richness of this wine had us pretty floored. Purple black in color with garnet edges, the 2018 Cemetery exhibits aromatic notes of plum, blackberry and cinnamon. Beautifully integrated tannins lend body and depth to the structure, and a balanced acidity keeps it lively, highlighting the nuances of licorice, espresso and boysenberry. This wine feels complete and moves with power and grace. Unfortunately, due to the loss of our 2019 and 2020 vintages, this will be the last bottling of Cemetery until the 2021 is available.

It is a bit less showy than many of the 2018s in this tasting, but it makes up for that with its drive and overall persistence. Dark-toned fruit, lavender, spice and gravel saturate the finish in this potent, brooding wine.

The 2018 is beautifully done.

The 2018 Now That I Have Your Attention is Cabernet Sauvignon from Moulds, all three barrels of it. Crème de cassis, lavender, spice, licorice and dark chocolate give this sumptuous, exotic Cabernet tons of character. Soft contours and silky tannins wrap around the succulent finish. This is beautifully done.
We love the adventurous spirit of this 2018 blend. It has a beautifully saturated dark core with ruby edges, and the mouthfeel is vibrant with red raspberry, licorice and graphite. The acidity is bright and energetic, and the nose exhibits toasty nutty aromas along with cherry cordial. The high notes and low notes of this wine play off of each other very well to lend balance and intrigue.

This final vintage of our wonderful Hermitage Clone Syrah from Kick Ranch in the Rincon Valley. We have always felt it is indescribably delicious and unique, and like all of our Syrahs, the added touch of Cabernet Sauvignon is just one more game changer. It is an elegant, balanced wine that has an exuberance to show off. 96 points from Vinous to cap things off!

\nThe 2018 Saint Helen, 80% Merlot and 20% Petit Verdot, is wonderfully alive and vibrant. Bright red-toned fruit, rose petal, mint and blood orange give the Saint Helen striking energy throughout. Lively acids and grippy tannins add character. This is far from an easygoing Merlot blend. I love the energy here.

The 2018 Cabernet Sauvignon Spare Me is blended of 76% Cabernet Sauvignon, 12% Merlot and 12% Petit Verdot. Deep garnet-purple colored, it sashays out of the glass with pretty scents of baked blackberries, black currant pastilles and stewed plums plus wafts of forest floor, tobacco leaf and cracked black pepper. The full-bodied palate is coated with ripe black fruits and a grainy texture, finishing with lovely freshness and a spicy kick.
