In 1974 when Carneros was believed to be too cool and dry to farm grapes, Tony Truchard defied conventional wisdom and planted 4 acres of cool climate loving Pinot Noir on our original 21-acre parcel. Over time these vines survived the drought of the 70s, phyloxera of the 90s, and are still standing strong to produce this beautiful 2013 vintage forty-three years later. Our Old Block Pinot Noir has a great perfume of raspberry and exotic spice. The wine has a rich mouth-feel, but maintains an elegance that is classic Truchard.

harvest! A warm and dry spring resulted in excellent berry set and a larger crop. Moderate temperatures throughout the growing season easily brought the fruit to full maturity. The wines of 2013 have great intensity and acidity; with beautiful aromas and flavors.
Vineyard: Tempranillo is the noble grape of Spain. It is the predominant varietal in the wines from the famous Rioja region, where it is sometimes blended with Garnacha (Grenache), Graciano, and Mazuelo (Carignan). In 1998 two acres of Tempranillo were planted on an isolated knoll in the southern part of the Truchard Estate Vineyard. The vines grow in volcanic soils and benefit from the cool Carneros temperatures. Tempranillo makes a unique, spicy wine, with deep purple color, lush texture, and firm acidity. It is a wonderful food wine.
Harvest: October 1 • 24.5 º Brix • 3.75 pH • 6.9 g/L TA
Winemaking: The fruit was gently destemmed and crushed into an open top fermenter with approximately 20% whole berries. The tank was inoculated with Pasteur Red yeast and punched down twice daily throughout the fermentation. The temperature peaked at 88º F. After 14 days of maceration, the lot was pressed and allowed to settle in tank before going to barrel. The wine was aged for 10 months in both French (85%) and American (15%) oak; 25% of these barrels were new. The wine was racked only one time before being bottled in August 2014. This wine is 100% Tempranillo. It is approachable right now, but will reward careful cellaring for the next 10 - 15 years.
Wine Analysis: 14.2% alcohol • 3.85 pH • 6.2 g/l TA
Tasting Notes: A complex nose of ripe cherry, cranberry, and cassis with a hint of Earl Grey tea and cedar. The mouth is layered with flavors of red currants, plum jam, and sweet vanilla. Chalky tannins focus the palate and provide a delicate finish of red fruit, mineral and spice.

A warm and dry spring resulted in excellent berry set and a larger crop. Moderate temperatures throughout the growing season easily brought the fruit to full maturity. As with the 2013 vintage, the wine has great intensity and acidity; with beautiful aromas and flavors.
\n\nVineyard: Tempranillo is the noble grape of Spain. It is the predominant varietal in the wines from the famous Rioja region, where it is sometimes blended with Garnacha (Grenache), Graciano, and Mazuelo (Carignan). In 1998 two acres of Tempranillo were planted on an isolated knoll in the southern part of the Truchard Estate Vineyard. The vines grow in volcanic soils and benefit from the cool Carneros temperatures. Tempranillo makes a unique, spicy wine, with deep purple color, lush texture, and firm acidity. It is a wonderful food wine.
\n\nHarvest: October 1 • 24.5 º Brix • 3.75 pH • 6.9 g/L TA
\n\nWinemaking: The fruit was gently destemmed and crushed into an open top fermenter with approximately 20% whole berries. The tank was inoculated with Pasteur Red yeast and punched down twice daily throughout the fermentation. The temperature peaked at 88º F. After 14 days of maceration, the lot was pressed and allowed to settle in tank before going to barrel. The wine was aged for 10 months in both French (85%) and American (15%) oak; 25% of these barrels were new. The wine was racked only one time before being bottled in August 2014. This wine is 100% Tempranillo. It is approachable right now, but will reward careful cellaring for the next 10 - 15 years.
\n\nWine Analysis: 14.2% alcohol • 3.85 pH • 6.2 g/l TA
\n\nTasting Notes: A complex nose of ripe cherry, cranberry, and cassis with a hint of Earl Grey tea and cedar. The mouth is layered with flavors of red currants, plum jam, and sweet vanilla. Chalky tannins focus the palate and provide a delicate finish of red fruit, mineral and spice.

This is one of the benefits of growing in Carneros annually and when the climate is aided by weather conditions like vintage 2016, it provides added aromatics, color and complexity. These conditions also gave our team a perfect window to pick each small lot with precision.
\nVineyard: The combination of terrain, geology and micro-climates in the Truchard Estate Vineyards makes us lucky to grow several grape varietals, including Cabernet Franc. Cabernet Franc is planted in several different sites on steep southwest facing hillsides. The vines range from 20 to 34 years old and produce deep colored grapes dominated by lush flavores of plum, berry and spice. Cabernet Sauvignon which grows on adjacent blocks is blended in to provide firmness, complexity and added age ability.
\nWinemaking: All of our fruit was gently destemmed and crushed, then inoculated with Pastuer Red yeast. Each fermentation was pumped-over twice daily with temperature peaking at 88 F. The lots were pressed after 14 days of maceration. The wine was aged for 20 months in French oak barrels (40% new). Racking occured every 4 months until bottling in August 2018. The final blend is 95% Cabernet Franc and 5% Cabernet Sauvginon. This wine is great now but will be a jewel to age in your cellar over the next 12 -15 years.

Tasting Notes:
Our Cab Franc has become a favorite among sommeliers and collectors for its elegance and complexity. We can blend up to 7 different blocks that vary in the soil, elevation, exposure, clonal selection, and age of vines from our estate. This Cab Franc has a dark maroon core that’s almost purple with a ruby edge. Medium to full-bodied on the palate, this wine has great focus and structure with bright acidity and well seamless tannins. The pronounced aromas of black currant and blackberries are counterbalanced by tart cranberry and rhubarb, laced with black tea, pencil lead, and violets. The palate matches the nose with amazing mouthfeel provided by densely packed tannins, fruit, and acidity performing in harmony.
Delicate aromas of violets and blueberries; combined with cedar, earth, and vanilla. The mouth has bright flavors of ripe plum, cherry, and cranberry. Silky tannins fill the palate and provide a lingering finish of fruit, mineral, and spice. 150 cases produced.

\n\nVineyard: Seven separate clonal selections of Pinot Noir grow on the Trurchard Estate Vineyard. Two "Martini clones", the "Pommard" clone, the "Swan" clone and several new selections from France -Dijon 114, 115, 667, 777. Each selection provides a unique element of aromatic fruit, spice, and texture to the blend. The vines range from 20 to 42 years and are planted in several sites that take full advantage of the this soild, rolling hills and cooler tempertures. These are factors that make the Carneros an ideal spot to grow Pinot Noir.
\n\nWInemaking: All of the fruit was gently destemmed and crushed into open top fermenters with approximately 20% whole berries. Each lot was inoculated with Assmannhausen
\nyeast, after “cold soaking” for up to 5 days. Fermentations were punched down three
\ntimes daily, with the temperature peaking at 92º F. After 7 - 12 days of maceration, the lots
\nwere pressed, settled in tanks for 24 hours, and then put into barrel. This wine was aged
\nfor 10 months in French oak (35% new), and bottled in August of 2017.

Winemaking: The fruit was gently destemmed and crushed into an open top fermenter\nwith approximately 20% whole berries. The tank was inoculated with Pasteur Red\nyeast and punched down twice daily throughout the fermentation. The temperature\npeaked at 88º F. After 14 days of maceration, the lot was pressed and allowed to settle\nin tank before going to barrel. The wine was aged for 10 months in both French (85%)\nand American (15%) oak; 25% of these barrels were new. The wine was racked only\none time before being bottled in August 2016. This wine is 100% Tempranillo. It is\napproachable right now, but will reward careful cellaring for the next 10 - 12 years.\n

Record winter rains finally provided some real drought relief; but bud-break still came about 1 week earlier than usual. Warm spring weather allowed for good berry set and a slightly below average crop. Hot summer and autumn temperatures quickly brought the fruit to maturity. Severe wild fires near the end of harvest made this a memorable vintage. The wines of 2017 are intense, but elegant with nice acidity and balance.

It is 420 acres of hills and valleys, which contain a variety of soils: clay, shale, sandstone, limestone, volcanic ash and rock. Winemaking: All the fruit was gently destemmed and crushed, then inoculated with Pasteur Red yeast. Fermentations were pumped-over twice daily with the temperature peaking at 88 F. Maceration time varied from 14 to 30 days depending on vineyard block. The wine was then aged for 20 months in French oak barrels (45% new). Rackings occured every 4 months until bottling. The final blend is 88% Cabernet Sauvignon, 10% Cabernet Franc, 1% Petit Verdot and 1% Malbec. This wine can age 10 to 15 years with proper cellaring but is drinkable now.

In 2009, 2 acres of Clone 169 Cabernet Sauvignon were planted above the Truchard Vineyards wine cave. These vines grow in light clay soils and produce a distinct wine that has unique floral aromas and lush flavors of plum, berry, and spice.

Vintage: 2017 was an early harvest with a mild winter that brought us some drought relief, however bud-break still peaked out about 2 to 3 weeks early. Spring weather was warm and allowed slightly below crop yeild but good berry set. Moderate summer temperatures easily brought the fruit to full flavored maturity. The 2017 vintages have intense flavors and aromas with beautiful structure and balance.
\nVineyard: Truchard Merlot is harvested from five separate hillside locations on the estate vineyard. The difference in soil, exposure, and temperature at each site combine to produce unique growing conditions for the grapes. As a result, the wines from these hillsides have their own identity, and each contributes different characteristics to the final blend. The vines age from 19 - 42 years old. Cabernet Franc, grown in adjacent areas of the vineyard is added to provide additional softeness, structure and complexity.

Record winter rains finally provided some real drought relief, but bud break still came about 1 week earlier than usual. Warm spring weather allowed for good berry set and a slightly below yielding crop average. Hot summer and autumn temperatures quickly brought the fruit to full maturity. Several wild fires near the end of the harvest made this a memorable vintage. The wine of 2017 are intense, but elegant, with nice acidity and balance.
Vineyard: 3 acres of Roussanne were planted on the southern edge of Truchard Vineyards in 1998. Growing in soils composed of volcanic rock and ash, the vines benefit from the gently sloped terrain and cooler Carneros temperatures. Roussanne is a challanging grape in both the vineyard and winery. However, when done correctly it can produce an aromatic and delicate wine with structure and finesse to age.
Winemaking: All the fruit was whole cluster pressed and fermented in French oak barrels (20% new). After fermentation, the wine remained in barrell on the lees (sur lie) for 6 months. A partial malolatic fermentation (30% complete) allows the wine to retain acidity, while regular stirring of the less (battonage) gives addeded complexity and richness.

2017 Vintage
\nThis was one growing season that everyone in Napa will not soon forget. Bud break started early, and growth was rapid due to late spring rains. Then there were three warm spells pushing towards an early finish that led up to cool fall. Then on October 8th, Napa and Sonoma were ravaged by wildfires. Napa had 90% of the harvest off the vines, and here at Truchard we were already done when the devastation hit. We are very fortunate to have harvested without concern of smoke taint, and even more lucky fires only a stone’s throw away did not reach our estate.
Tasting Notes:
\nIf we had a nickel for every time someone said, “I don’t normally like Zin, but I like Truchard’s!” Like our Syrah, we produce a more balanced version than many wine lovers have been exposed to. The color is an intense purple with ruby edges. Full to medium-bodied, this Zin has structure and tons of aromatic character. Aromas of fresh red raspberry, black cherries, and baked berry pie with savory notes of tomato leaf and spices all fused with great acidy and soft tannins. A wine that has broad appeal yet is complex enough to keep you wanting another sip.
The 2018 Chardonnay is layered with tropical fruit notes of pineapple and mango counterpointed by a core of bright citrus fruits of Meyer lemon, quince, and kumquat then rounded out by granny smith apples, spice, and floral like perfume. The high-quality French oak is well integrated and the wine has amazing acidity for its richness and complexity.

\nWe grow our Chardonnay in the coolest and southernmost part of the Estate, the vines range from 25-45 years old and benefit from the various marine soils, gently sloped terrain, and cooler temperature conditions that make the Carneros region ideal for growing Chardonnay. They produce aromatic wines with complex fruit characteristics with unique spice and floral notes.
Malbec is considered one of the five “Bordeaux” varieties. This thin-skinned, mid-season ripening grape produces an extremely dark wine with firm tannins. It has traditionally been used as a blender to add color and structure in Bordeaux wines; it is also well-known as an Argentine varietal. In 1999, one acre of Malbec was planted in an isolated valley on the Truchard Estate Vineyard. The vines grow in a light sandstone soil on a steep hillside. The cooler Carneros climate allows for long “hang-time” and round, ripe tannins. The resulting wine is dark purple, with spicy aromas, and intense flavors of plum and berry. We only bottle this wine as a standalone variety every 4-5 years when the quality is superb.

Vineyard: 3 acres of Roussanne were planted on the southern edge of Truchard Vineyards in 1998. Growing in soils composed of volcanic rock and ash, the vines benefit from the gently sloped terrain and cooler Carneros temperatures. Roussanne is a challanging grape in both the vineyard and winery. However, when done correctly it can produce an aromatic and delicate wine with structure and finesse to age.
Winemaking: All the fruit was whole cluster pressed and fermented in French oak barrels (20% new). After fermentation, the wine remained in barrell on the lees (sur lie) for 6 months. A partial malolatic fermentation (30% complete) allows the wine to retain acidity, while regular stirring of the less (battonage) gives addeded complexity and richness.

Vineyard: There are only 4 acres of Zinfandel planted on the Truchard Estate Vineyard. One acre is in the northern “Highlands” region, and three acres are located at the southern end of the vineyard. The vines range from 20 to 28 years old and grow on steep hillsides composed of volcanic rock and ash. The porous soils and cooler Carneros climate combine to produce an exceptionally intense Zin, with unique fruit and spice components.
Harvest: Ocober 26 - 31 • 24.5 ºBrix • 3.62 pH • 7.2 g/L TA
Winemaking: The grapes were gently destemmed and crushed, then inoculated with Pasteur Red yeast. The fermentations were pumped-over twice daily, with the temperature peaking at 88° F. After 14 days of maceration the lots were pressed, and the wine allowed to settle in tank for 24 hours before going to barrel. This wine was aged in both French (80%) and American oak (20%) for 10 months; 35% of these barrels were new. The wine was racked only one time before being bottled in August of 2019. Truchard Vineyards produces the only Zin made entirely from Napa Carneros fruit.
Wine Analysis: 14.2% alcohol • 3.72 pH • 6.2 g/l TA
Tasting Notes: An exotic nose of boysenberry, cherry, and cassis; with hints of cedar, tobacco, and mint. The mouth is filled with jammy flavors of ripe plum, cranberry, and sweet vanilla. Round tannins and firm acidity provide a lengthy finish of spice and red fruits.

Vineyard: The Truchard Estate Vineyard is located in the Carneros region of the Napa Valley. It is 400 acres of rolling hills and valleys that contain a variey of soils: clay, shale, sandstone, limestone, volcanic ash and rock. The combinations of terrain, geology and marine-moderated temperatures provide ideal growing conditions for wine-grapes. Our Cabernet Sauvignon is planted in several different sites on steep, southwestern facing hillsides. The vines range from 19 - 42 years and produce wines that are deep in color and dominated by lush flavors of plum, berry and spice. Cabernet Franc, Petit Verdot, and Malbec are blended in to provide additional softness, structure and complexity.
\nWinemaking: All the fruit was gently destemmed and crushed, then inoculated with Pasteur Red yeast. Fermentations were pumped-over twice daily with the temperature peaking at 88 F. Maceration time varied from 14 to 30 days depending on vineyard block. The wine was then aged for 20 months in French oak barrels (45% new). Rackings occured every 4 months until bottling. The final blend is 88% Cabernet Sauvignon, 10% Cabernet Franc, 1% Petit Verdot and 1% Malbec. This wine can age 10 to 15 years with proper cellaring but is drinkable now.

The 2019 Chardonnay is layered with tropical fruit notes of pineapple and mango counterpointed by a core of bright citrus fruits of Meyer lemon, quince, and kumquat then rounded out by granny smith apples, spice, and floral like perfume. The high-quality French oak is well integrated and the wine has amazing acidity for its richness and complexity.
We grow our Chardonnay in the coolest and southernmost part of the Estate, the vines range from 25-45 years old and benefit from the various marine soils, gently sloped terrain, and cooler temperature conditions that make the Carneros region ideal for growing Chardonnay. They produce aromatic wines with complex fruit characteristics with unique spice and floral notes.
